Goodness, do I owe ya’ll an update! First and foremost, let me just say: the dry spell is officially over! And it feels really good to report that to you.. Secondly, though, how are you all doing? We’re nearing the holidays; that’s always a crazy-making time. Do any of you have special traditions, or travel plans, for winter? I’d love to hear what’s going on in your lives…
For me, things are pretty easy for the next couple weeks. I’ve just returned from some travel—I was down in Mexico City in late November, and in Portland again (for the first time in three years) over an October weekend—and it feels good to be back in LA again. Though I greatly loved reacquainting myself with PDX, some of its sights and sounds and light; and I greatly enjoyed getting to know Mexico City, on a first-name basis. There’s nothing more interesting than a tightrope walk between the old and new, new and old. “Pretty easy” will not last, either: I’ve got another trip planned for early next year, Italy, and hopefully the chance to work with (at least one?) local Italian boy.
What I primarily have to tell you about, though, is work. The cover picture for this post is from my visit to PDX; the models pictured are Rue, Andrew L, and Bear respectively. You all know Andrew and Bear already—the other model is Bear’s sweetheart, whom I was meeting and shooting for the first time. (Kindly note that both Rue and Bear go by “they” pronouns.) While you cannot quite tell from this image, nevertheless it should be said, that a better weekend couldn’t have been had in Portland this autumn: the leaves were in full seasonal change, the moss absolutely verdant, and we lucked out for weather, too. It made for some spectacular images!
Despite some chill in the great outdoors, I mostly avoided staying inside altogether these past few months. There is one notable exception! Down in Mexico City, I worked with a dancer/model called Bryant. This man can sing with his body—in all honesty—and moved like every part of him needed to connect, physically, with the world around him. We shot inside our AirBNB, in Condesa, White walls and a great embarrassment of light! I couldn’t have asked for more—though I got more, frankly, as Bryant was a sweetheart and very down-to-earth.
Also, I worked with Christopher Smith Bryant for our fourth session! Still cannot get over the fact that he trusts me so, and still finds much to love about collaborating together! Chris is quite the heavy-hitter in Los Angeles, currently making comedic waves and activist waves. Our goal for this shoot was fairly simple: using some twink-god beauty to break the internet with ass! (You think I’m joking, but I really think that’s what Chris wanted…) We shot some nudes in Malibu that channeled his attention to what plays well on Instagram, and my formal style, which balanced both of our needs well.
Finally, I got to work with another new model called Minh. He’s a runway fashion boy, fairly new to the scene. (“Boy” is a misnomer: he’s 28 and quite accomplished already.) Minh has incredible instincts, when it comes to modeling; his interest in art is all centered around doing new things and challenging himself. Given my traditional experience with fashion-types, this charge for visual interest and novelty is uncommon and greatly prized. He was great fun to work with!
It truly has been an excellent couple of months! And while there’s more I could highlight here, I’ve still got some editing to do before I show you additional work. So, please, kindly enjoy these four images rounding-up my autumn/winter as we head towards 2020. Thank you all!
